Mother's Day can be painful
For some, a holiday like Mother's Day is meant to be celebrated
and for many, that year can be a particularly painful time.
This can be true for those who are grieving the loss of their loved ones,
separated from their family members or facing fertility issues in any other circumstance.
And for those urging people to shop and celebrate,
the weeks leading up to Mother's Day can be especially full of those reminders.
This is how an increasing number of companies are offering customers the opportunity to opt out of marketing emails,
a trend that appears to be exacerbated by the misery caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
"Mother's Day is for many people the mother of all trigger days in relation to the Hallmark holiday,
as it appears that it is the one day of the year that every single company on earth ...
is yelling at you that Mother's Day is coming. is," says Rebecca Soffer.
Sofar says that she personally prefers to make plans in advance for such occasions,
whether they are social or secluded. But if she isn't feeling up to it when the day comes,
she also gives herself full permission to shut them down.
